About Tahfa
PAST
TAHFA began as the Texas Association of Hospital Accountants, a state-wide organization similar to the American Association of Hospital Accountants, a sub-group of the American Hospital Association. It was organized May 24, 1941 in Dallas by Mrs. Ruth Rogers, with 35 members representing 30 different Texas hospitals
The name of the organization was changed to the Texas Association of Hospital Financial Administration and in 1995 was changed again to the Texas Association for Healthcare Financial Administration to open its membership to all healthcare financial managers. 1995 was also the year TAHFA became a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation for educational purposes.
In April 2002, TAHFA became a fully independent organization directly managed by the TAHFA Board of Directors and administrative staff. The organization maintains an affiliation with the Texas Hospital Association, providing access to THA resources for TAHFA members.
Through the years, the organization has been affiliated with the Texas Hospital Association, supported and managed through THA’s Education and Membership Departments. After incorporation, TAHFA continued to have close ties to the financial staff at THA while officially managed by a THA subsidiary, HealthShare.
PRESENT
In April 2002, TAHFA became a fully independent organization directly managed by the TAHFA Board of Directors and administrative staff. The organization maintains an affiliation with the Texas Hospital Association, providing access to THA resources for TAHFA members.
The mission hasn’t changed; it is:
- First, to be a major advocate and leadership organization regarding healthcare financial issues for Texas hospitals and other healthcare providers of patient services in Texas.
- Second, to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas, dissemination of material, and educational opportunities relative to financial issues.
- And third, to encourage the interchange of ideas among healthcare financial management personnel in order to promote uniformity and efficiency in healthcare finance.
FUTURE
TAHFA’s vision is to “be the premier association of financial leaders for healthcare providers in Texas.” We’re well on our way to making that a reality.
